About Your Instructors:

Scott Lane graduated from Montana State University in 2003 with a degree in K-12 Art Education, and he has been teaching ceramics at Capital High School ever since. Scott focuses on wheel throwing, with specialties that include custom-made glazes and alternative firings, like raku.

He spends his falls hunting and spring & summers fishing. He also sells his personal work through Garnet Mountain Pottery, named after the mountain range where he built a log cabin for their family.

--

Megan Lane graduated from Montana State University the same year as Scott with degrees in Biology and Secondary Science Education. She has been teaching Biology at CR Anderson Middle School since 2004.

Though she doesn't have an art degree, Megan has owned and operated Megan Lane Photography since 2009. Her photography has been featured in numerous local and national publications. She's also had multiple "Best of Helena" and "Best of the West" awards for her wedding and portrait photography. Together, she and Scott photographed over 100 weddings before retiring from wedding photography in 2021. Megan still continues the portrait side of her business (baby, family, Seniors).

In her free time, Megan loves reading, bargain shopping, and spending time at their cabin in the Garnet Mountains.

--

Both Scott and Megan are passionate teachers who have been honored as Helena Education Foundation's Distinguished Educators multiple times over the past twenty years.

--

The Lanes have three school-aged kids, a sassy cat, and a *very* rambunctious lab. They feel lucky to be raising their family in the Helena community with it's amazing support for education and the arts.

Scott & Megan are excited to offer Helena-area tweens, teens, and adults a new opportunity to cultivate one's personal creativity, while building community with like-minded people.

Course Fees & Materials

Course fees can be paid in full at registration, or split into (4) monthly payments. If you choose monthly payments, your first month will be paid at the time of registration.

Photography - $290/term

No experience necessary, but students must bring a digital camera to every class.

A phone camera can be used, but there will be lessons that go beyond these capabilities, so progress & growth will be impacted. A laptop is optional, but it will greatly enhance your student's experience. Unfortunately, Chromebooks don't have the necessary capabilities, so those won't be helpful for this class.

If you need to purchase a digital camera, I suggest a Canon Rebel.* All of the Rebel models have the ability to shoot in Manual, which will allow students to get the most out of class.

*There are great entry-level cameras from many brands, but I shoot Canon, so that's the brand I feel most comfortable discussing:) I did a quick search and you can get a used Canon Rebel digital camera with a lens for around $60-$70 on Ebay. For anyone who's interested in purchasing a camera, I will provide more details/suggestions after you've completed enrollment for your student.

Ceramics - $350/term

No experience necessary. All materials are included in the class fee: clay, glazes, firings, tools.

--

Discounts

Tuition is discounted when students enroll in both the Photography & Ceramics Classes.

The Fine Print - Please read each Section carefully!

After reading each section, type your initials to indicate your understanding and agreement of the terms therein.

If there are terms you don't understand &/or agree with, please contact Megan at 406-431-6452 or megan@meganlanephotography.com before completing registration. Terms are binding once registration has been submitted.

Section I.
Fees can be paid in full at the start of the Term, or split into (4) monthly payments. All monthly payments are automated and cannot be canceled. There is no prorating for absences and no fees will be reimbursed for missed classes.
Section II.
Due to the small class size, this is a full three-month (or six-month) commitment. If circumstances change and you wish to de-enroll, your spot in the class can be transferred to a different person. If we have people on the Waiting List we will contact them first. However, if no one wants the spot, you are responsible for finding someone who wants to enroll. In that case, you are also responsible for them getting in contact with us.

Only when the new person has paid for the remaining classes (or set up their monthly auto payments) does your payment commitment end. If you paid in full, you will be reimbursed the prorated cost within (14) business days, minus a $40 administrative fee. If you are on monthly payments, those payments will be canceled after a one-time $40 administrative fee is charged. You will be reimbursed the monthly prorated cost, if applicable, within (14) business days.

Please Note: the above terms start at the time registration is submitted. In other words, there is no grace period in which you can withdraw without the terms & penalty outlined above.
Section III.
In the event that unforeseen circumstances occur to either instructor (illness, accident, jury duty, etc), the other Art for All (AFA) instructor will substitute during the regularly scheduled class time.

If this is not possible, either due to the personal circumstances of the AFA instructors, or due to the specific class content, parents will be contacted about the class cancellation as soon as possible (by text).

All efforts will be made to reschedule the missed class. A re-scheduled class might be scheduled later in the same week, it might be a "double class" (i.e. instead of 3:30 - 5:00 pm, class would be 3:30 - 6:30 pm), or it might be a class added at the end of the term.

If someone is not able to attend the rescheduled class, there will be no refunds or reimbursements. However, in the event that an instructor is no longer able to finish the Term (for any reason), prorated fees will be reimbursed to all affected people.
Section IV.
Parents are responsible for all transportation.

At the end of class, everyone must exit the school from Entry 19 (CRA) or Entry 18 (CHS) within five minutes of dismissal.

Students will not be allowed to wait for rides inside the school buildings. Following dismissal, instructors will no longer be responsible for students, nor will they check to see how students are getting home. They will only check to make sure everyone has exited the building from the correct door. Instructors are not responsible for ensuring that parents/guardians/rides have arrived on time, nor will they supervise students who are waiting for pickup.

Students attending CR Anderson Middle School who are enrolled in the Photography Class may use Mrs. Lane's room as a Study Hall until class starts at 3:30 pm. This will be silent, individual work time; it is not additional class time. Mrs. Lane has school-related duties during that time.

Section V.

Art for All Rules

  • Be respectful to the teacher, classroom, tools, and materials being used.
  • Be respectful to others and the artwork they create.
  • Be respectful to yourself and the artwork you create.
  • Be positive and encouraging.
  • There is no running or roughhousing allowed.

Everyone is expected to follow the classroom rules and expectations. Persons who are disrespectful, rude, or aggressive will not be tolerated. Art for All (AFA) aims to have a peaceful environment where people can learn and be creative, and it is important that everyone respects others and the experiences they paid for. AFA has the right to refuse service if someone does not adhere to the classroom rules. If there is a problem, AFA expects open communication where both parties are willing to listen and communicate clearly while having a mature and civil conversation. If there needs to be a longer conversation, instructors will schedule it outside of class hours. If someone is being disruptive or ruining the classroom atmosphere, AFA has the right to excuse that person from class. If this happens, a prorated refund will be issued for the remaining classes (minus a $40 administrative fee), and that person will not return to class.

Section VI.

Class enrollment is limited and will be filled in a first-come, first-served basis. Once the enrollment cap has been met, additional people will be added to the Art for All Waiting List. Enrollment must meet a minimum threshold per class, otherwise that class will be canceled for the Term. If canceled, all people will have their enrollment funds returned in full.

Please Note: you will see an extra $0.01 added to your total below. Apologies, it's a quirk in the "build" of my payment page. I'm happy to provide you a penny in reimbursement! :-)
